Sweet Success for Bude Bakery

In the 2007 Taste of the West Awards we were delighted to win a Gold Award for our Hot Chocolate Pudding, a Silver Award for Sticky Toffee Pudding and a Bronze Award for Baked Cornish Cheesecake.

In 2006 we won a Silver for New York Cheesecake at the prestigious Great Taste Awards in London - the “Oscars” of the food world !

Cornwall Cakes was established in 1996 in the kitchen of the joint owners Rob and Jo Bader. Jo thought up the business idea at a time when many hotels, pubs and restaurants bought in mass-produced frozen sweets for their menus. It seemed a good idea to offer caterers a range of fresh hand-made quality desserts.

Over the years the business has grown and now operates from a modern well equipped bakery unit in Bude, with 3 fully trained patisserie chefs. However the original business ethos remains - everything is still made by hand in small batches using Cornish Free Range Eggs, Cornish Butter and Roddas Cornish Cream. You certainly won’t find any synthetic cream here !

As well as receiving regular orders from its many loyal Bude customers, Cornwall Cakes supplies throughout Cornwall and has been proving very popular with chefs in pubs, hotels, restaurants and tea-rooms.

The people: -

Rob has been a chef for over twenty years and also taught cookery. He has gained many cookery qualifications including NVQ Level 3 Patisserie.

Jo has many years experience as an accountant having run her own book-keeping practice when she enjoyed working closely with many successful local businesses. These skills have helped her shape Cornwall Cakes.

Two skilled pastry chefs also work for Cornwall Cakes. Ben Dayman has been with them three years and has several seasons experience as a chef locally. Local chef Heather Symons joined the team early in 2006. They both hold NVQ Level 3 Patisserie.
